APPLE MANGROVE ( Xylocarpus granatum ) This species is widespread and common along coastal sea-shores of far east countries ,Australia, Eat coast of Africa (kenya,somalia and tanzania), mozambique, madagascar and sycheles, but it is threatened by the loss of mangrove habitat throughout its range, primarily due to extraction and coastal development. It is therefore faced with extinction and it is listed, The plant is used in folklore medicine by the orientalists and some coastal natives of East Africa, The fruit known as KOKO YA MKOMAFI by the coastal native has shown to yield remarkable results when employed in the treatment of unspecified diarrhea, dysentry, cholera, fever and gastritis, peptic ulcers and spasmodic affection in the lower abdomen especially those spasms in hernia,and as a general anti-inflamation. In summary the seeds encroached in a core-fibre exhibit medicinal activities such as Astringent, Febrifuge, Caeminative, Antispasmodic, Antacid, Tonic and Aphrodisiac.
