ARAB NEWS: OCT. 23, 2013 Violators told to expedite processing of paperwork With the Nov. 3 amnesty deadline fast approaching, the Ministries of Labor and Interior have called on illegal expatriates to expedite paperwork processing in order to avoid penal action. “The Ministries of Interior and Labor have called on expats who have violate residency and work regulations to take advantage of the extension of the legalization period ordered by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, which expires on Nov. 3. Ministries have urged violators to visit administrative buildings to legalize their status in accordance with the regulations in force,” ministry sources said yesterday. “Penalties prescribed by the system will be applied firmly against any violator, be it workers or employers,” one ministry official warned. Diplomatic missions in the Kingdom, especially those with large numbers of expatriates, have launched massive campaigns to help illegal workers legalize their status or seek repatriation before the amnesty deadline ends. Several foreign missions have launched special registration drives to assist overstaying nationals in Saudi Arabia. Around one million illegal expatriates have so far been deported and other undocumented workers have been warned against staying on illegally, the sources said. The two ministries have asked companies not to hire illegal workers, as special teams have been formed to inspect work places to catch illegal expatriate workers once the Nov. 3 deadline ends. In addition, the Ministry of Labor has warned landlords against housing or protecting violators of employment and residence regulations.
