ARE APPREHENDED VIOLENCE ORDERS EFFECTIVE AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE? It has been reported that 44% of all Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVOs) issued in NSW were contravened in the year to September 2014. BOSCAR statistics suggest that 11,788 out of the 26,491 of ADVO’s issued in that time were breached in one way or another. And three women have reportedly already been killed this year by their partners, the latest being 26-year-old Leila Alavi who was allegedly murdered by her ex-husband (both pictured below). This has led to calls for a national summit to address the issue of domestic violence, and to look at strengthening the deterrents against such conduct. What do you think - are AVOs effective? Or is there a better way?
