ARE YOU A CHILD OF GOD? Most Christians would readily answer “YES!!” But think about this before you answer… Several months ago, our family was the victim of some horrific, unthinkable and totally unfounded rumors. This was the kind that can destroy a family and in the wake, did destroy friendships. I have thought about this so much- wondering HOW could someone call themselves a Christian and not bother to find out the TRUTH before repeating such gossip. I finally realized I had been asking the wrong question. They did not say “I am a Christian and God will fight my battles”, what they DID say is I am a “Child of God”… And that makes a huge difference. A child of God is simply born there. We are all a child of God because we are of the human race. We don’t have to do a dang thing except – BE. A Christian chooses to be one- to be Christ-like- live like he did, love like him, have the compassion and respect for others he had. And with that comes responsibility for our actions… Yeah, that seems to be the part people don’t like. It’s just easier to be a “child of God” because, then they can drink, cuss, smoke, gamble, spread gossip, and hurt people and STILL feel justified in their position with God. I am in no position to say they aren’t a child of God, for again –we all are. But I will say this- You may be God’s child, but you most certainly are an UNRULY child. And a child you will always be... Christianity challenges you to GROW-UP. Christ-like challenges you to find the truth about a rumor- with only the people involved- find out that it’s NOT true – go back to the people you heard it from in the first place and tell them it’s not true, and then STOP IT. NOT KEEP REPEATING UNFOUNDED RUMORS AND ADDING TO IT. The Bible is full of warnings regarding the tongue and its dangers. So, you “Child of God”- continue as you are doing and someday you will have God turn you over his knee for acting like the spiritual child you are – and for not taking the accountability you should already have accepted.
