In our rush to climb ladders, we have neglected each others humanness and started treating each other like tools When you think of the word networking, what comes to your mind is dating and love affairs. To me, Its more much than that. Its all about BUSINESS CONNECTIONS INTRODUCTIONS LADDER CLIMBING Calculated professional networking for the purpose of career and business advancement produces easy and faster business target achievement for companies. The question is, why is it that the act of social networking makes some people feel that you are bad ass? Social networking starts right from the time someone enters college, he or she is constantly networking and being told how vital a network is to personal and professional growth. In the rush to climb ladders, people neglected one another’s humanness and started treating others as tools. John F. Kennedy once said: “Ask not what your network can do for you. Ask what you can do for your network.” This is a concept I learned for years now because its working for me and any organisation were I find myself. I keyed into it and have hit what many would consider as network gold, with power of empowering other small, medium and large scale businesses. For years now, I would send job opportunities in my facebook wall as a freelance job provider to friends and job seekers, i thought can suit any lucky, experience and qualified individual at no cost, but personally, I had no offer in return, but charity work for the sake of humanity. But I’ve gained more experience, contacts and connection to do anything, standing as a consultant. So I will say that the God in me tried as best as possible to reciprocate my kindness and generosity. If you think of people and companies whom you wish to meet, I do my best to connect you to them. If there’s something I think you would enjoy knowing, I send it to you. So back to Merriam-Websters definition. People not only need to cultivate productive business relationships but also to change the way they think of the key word productive. A productive relationship is not one in which all that someone is doing is taking. That type of relationship is the type that will send a person straight to early grave. A productive business relationship is one that focuses just as much on building up the people around as it does building up the person you are. There are times when people need to reach out to others for advice, for a reference, for an introduction. But in building and maintaining business relationships, and they dont know how, this should be when the power of social networking comes to play part. You need to think and ask on what more you can do for your networking, start by contacting someone in your group or contact that knows someone, who have what you are looking for. Do you know someone looking for a job? Help the person, just as I do. Did you find an interesting article online that might suit someone else starting a business? Circulate it and Send it to the persons you think need it. Are you aware of two people who ought to know each other? Introduce them.
