ARL Set to Raise Big Money for ALS Foundation WOW! The response from the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been nothing short of AWESOME! If you look across the nation it has totally boomed. In fact a report from the ALS website this morning reports that they have received over $94 million since July 29, 2014! We can look right here in our little community and see the incredible impact that it has had on our students, their siblings, parents, aunts uncles, cousins, grandparents, athletic teams, law enforcement officers, county and city elected officials and the list goes on! At ARL we are planning to fundraise for the remainder of the 1st term of school. Our student body officers and their advisor Anne Winder came up with a brilliant plan. We will use the same 5-gallon buckets that many people have used for the ice bucket challenge to collect donations. We are trying to create an element of friendly competition as well as fun. Each class 6th, 7th, 8th grades as well as the Staff will have a bucket to place their donations in. Each bucket is sealed with a lid so that no one knows exactly how much money is in each bucket. The winner will be determined by weight! So we are encouraging students and staff to bring in their loose change. We want to collect as much money for the ALS foundation as possible so we have also placed a $1 equals 1 pound for bills and checks. So a $5 bill is worth 5 pounds and a $100 check is worth 100 pounds and so on. The winning class will receive a major class activity on one of the afternoons in the beginning of the 2nd term. If the staff bucket wins, all staff members will receive.....drum roll please.....a new car!!! Oh wait, not in the budget. The staff will be rewarded with a nice dinner. We would like to encourage parents, guardians, and anyone else from the community to bring your donations into the ARL Office and contribute to the class of your choice or even the staff bucket. We are a tiny little school in the most rural of places but we believe that we can send in a hefty donation to ALS. Remember that this is a great opportunity to teach our kids about giving, caring, sacrifice and service above self.
