ARONDIZUOGU CULTURAL ANTHEM Ndizuogu have an inspiring cultural anthem known as ‘OGOOGO NNEENE’ which is customarily sung by the women folk at public functions. The wordings of this anthem are intended to remind our people of our heroic heritage. The singing of OGOOGO NNEENE is usually preceded by the peculiar women’s salutation called OKIRI-OO which is intended to prepare the grounds for the anthem. OKIRI-OO goes thus: Lead Singer (Onye ogugu): Okiri –o-o-o Chorus (Okwukwe): O-oooo Lead Singer (Onye ogugu): Okiri –o-o-o Chorus (Okwukwe): O-oooo Lead Singer (Onye ogugu): Okiri –o-o-o Chorus (Okwukwe): O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o- Izuogu!!! Then follows the general or pan-Arondizuogu anthem (for Arondizuogu as a federation): Lead Singer (Onye ogugu): Iyo oo oo, iyo oo oo, Ndizuogu kweenu egwuo-o Chorus (Okwukwe): Ogoogo nneene o-o Ogoogo nneene o-o Anyi bu umu Izuogu bu umu Chukwu Obughi ma Chineke ayi je adi? Ihii ihiii Izuogu wu enyi-oo Lead Singer (Onye ogugu): Kwenu otu onu ka-agbata nuru! Chorus (Okwukwe): Ihii ihiii Izuogu wu enyi-oo! Lead Singer (Onye ogugu): Kwezuonu otu onu ka-agbata nuru! Chorus (Okwukwe): Ihii ihiii Izuogu wu enyi-oo! Ndiheme equally have a pan-Ndiheme anthem (for Ndiheme as a realm). Each village/town in Arondizuogu also has it’s own adaptation of OGOOGO NNEENE which the women of that town use in their own meeting, sometimes, in pan-Arondizuogu gatherings when occasion demands that they joyfullly assert their presence. Can any adamazi/nwa mazi on FB recite the wordings of the OGOOGO NNEENE of her/his own village/town? Let’s hear it now!
