ART AUCTION: LOT 8 “GEISHA” 60cm x 35cm Fascinator in Mixed Medium on milliner’s canvas – banana leaf fibre, crinoline, feathers (spotted guinea fowl and ostrich quill) It is not expected to see a fascinator in an art auction however, Australian-born Miaoulis (of Patmos heritage) is in the serious business of creating art to wear for the sophisticated race-goer and some of the biggest names in show business industry. She is internationally recognised as the head designer for the Memsahib millinery label and her work is well covered by the media at prestigious race meets including, the Melbourne Cup, Royal Ascot, Arc de Triomphe, Kentucky Derby and The Dubai Cup. Miaoulis is Sydney-based, has exhibited at Paddington’s Tim Olsen Gallery under the sponsorship of PriceWaterHouseCoopers and at the Jacob Javitts in NYC. Her career spans three continents with major markets in the United States and Israel, has been shot by Karl Lagerfeld and enjoys a following of luminaries such as Dianne Lane, Jennifer Tilly, Paris Hilton and Cyndi Lauper to name a few. Her filmography has seen her land a guest spot in Cyndi Lauper’s reality TV show and her work appears in the major Hollywood motion picture “Fifty to One”. “Geisha” inspired by the minimalism of the Japanese aesthetic, lifts the fascinator beyond the utilitarian where fashion and art meet. Miaoulis also serves on the board of Mondo Cane Animal Welfare Society as a founding member and its Secretary-General.
