ARTICLE #3 Staple food of the rural Somali family Milk from camels, goats and cows is a staple food for Somali herdsmen and nomadic families. Young men looking after camel herds during the rainy season often drink up to several litters of milk a day. On some occasions , aging camels are slaughtered for their meat. The fatty camel’s hump is considered a delicacy. meat , including liver from sheep and goat , is also popular . nomads season their food with butter and ghee, a clarified butter or fried camel bone –marrow . among nomads and farmers, cooking is usually done outdoors over a wood or charcoal fire. Somalis eat by scooping food from bowls with the fingers of the right hand or with a FANDHAAL a kind of wooden spoon. Farmers in southern Somalia grow corn , beans,sorghum ,millet as well as few other vegetables legumes. The most popular breads are MUUFO & LAXOOX, both of which are flat breads made from ground flour .
