ARTIST WANTED - NO PAY, BUT LOTS OF EXPOSURE! After being forwarded this link from a couple of different people, and hearing several others discussing it, Id be interested in hearing your thoughts. Is it appropriate for large and profitable businesses to try to pay artists and other creatives (filmmakers, writers, musicians, etc) with exposure? Why is this such a common occurrence? Brent Naughton Sports Artist, a very talented artist based in Cincinnati, was one of the artists who received the letter from Showtime asking if he would create free artwork to be considered for the promotion of the upcoming Mayweather vs. Maidana fight to be held at the MGM Grand on September 13. (Forbes recently published an article listing Floyd Mayweather as the 2014 World’s Highest paid athlete.) Have you ever been asked to create work for free? Is this common practice exacerbated by the many struggling creatives who are so desperate for a break that they are happy to trade their work for exposure? Read the article below and give us your thoughts...
