AS ONE DOOR CLOSES ANOTHER OPENS. It has been over 25 glorious years since I became a New York certified patterntologist and apparel artist; and opened my first studio. I knew someday...this day would come. I would be a member of the "silver-wing" fashionista set. What would this mean? Would I be relegated as the wedding dress designer to bride-zilla? Children’s designer….or worse the purse designer? Or would my passion for fashion die... would I just lose interest in something I had pursued and studied my entire life? The only thing I knew for sure was that I would not become nor allow my clients to be the ridiculously glad silver-wing fashionista in a micro-mini skirt or barely-there wrap dress. Well time has resolved these issues. What is has meant is re-inventing myself and my client base without losing myself as an artist and designer. First, I found inspiration in the number of empty-nesters, male and female, enrolling in my classes and just beginning their apparel arts careers with great passion and excitement. Second, I found my interest re-invigorated as my skill as a cutter began to dominate my designs---which had previously been made subordinate to fabric colors and textures. Third, I let go of the hidden idea that clothing comes in many sizes --but fashion is a size 6. I design more accessories and trims as a way to carry on my love of bold colors and textures, a strategy which plays beautifully into designing for the silver-wing fashionista, btw. In fact, being a member of the "silver-wing" fashionista set feels a whole lot like being re-born. And, this page is dedicated to us…
