AS PDP SET TO THE PRIMARIES IN AKWA IBOM STATE. Unlike in general elections, where voters can still change their minds at the dying minutes of elections, delegates who vote at the primaries always have their minds made up, even before they are elected as delegates. Therefore, smart aspirants always pull out from the race even before the primaries, if they are not sure of an appreciable number of their supporters being delegates. You must not secure all the number you require for an outright victory, before the primaries but you should at least have a good number to start with. So that, towards the main primaries, you may horse trade and bargain to sway some delegates to your side. As a governorship aspirant, if you do not have up to one thousand five hundred guaranteed delegates in your pockets, then, you should stop spending your money. Go home and begin to plan for the next four years, or better still, begin now to look for another political Party under which you may pursue your ambition. The Party leadership has to find a way of ensuring that only those who have been loyal to the Party emerge as delegates. They do not have to allow hired mercenaries to determine the direction of the Party. I have heard that some of these returnee Party men who are vying for one position or the other in the Party have purchased forms for their fellow returnee agents to be made Party delegates. Such people must be frustrated out of the delegates race. Delegates are supposed to be good and tested ambassadors of the Party, who will vote for the Partys interest and defend its goal with their votes. Delegates do not have to be people who can be bought for ten shilings and a half. They have to be people who can stand their grounds and vote with their conscience and for the Partys good. They also have to be people whom the Party can trust, and who can always listen to the Partys leadership and toe the path that may laid out for them by the Party. The beautiful thing about the primaries is that those who qualify to vote are usually some of the Partys most consistent members. They are politicians who are trusted by other Party members that they are sent to represent their interest at the collegiate election. These individuals do not just vote for anybody, they vote for the people they trust can pursue their Partys interest. These delegates also see the primaries as an opportunity to pay back those passive Party members who have always preferred to pursue their personal interests against the Partys interest. In Akwa Ibom State, the PDP members who will eventually emerge as delegates after the congress will take certain factors into mind when they start voting for their preferred flag bearers: The elected delegates will remember that there are certain men and women who abandoned the Party within the short period they did not get appreciable patronage from the Party, they will not vote for such people, because such people are not Party members, they are the food is ready kind of associates. The delegates who are elected today, will remember the activities of every individual within the Party during the 2011 elections. They will vote for those who suffered and struggled for the Party. They will not vote for those who worked against the Partys interest, for such people are responsible for the frustrations they are suffering in the State today. They will not also vote for people who returned to the Party because they have been disappointed by those they ran to. It will look like lavishing a wife who jilted you in rough times only to run back to you, when the new husband has disappointed her. Akwa Ibom PDP delegates will also not forget in a jiffy that there are certain individuals who though they didnt leave the Party, but were merely in the Party to pursue personal goals. The delegates will also take into heart the activities of our Elders who are presently seeking the Partys political power to have a slot in the next elections. The delegates will remember if these elders worked or are working for the Party or if such Elders are pursuing their personal goals but the elders advices plays a vital roles when choosing a candidate so never ignore them. The delegates will also measure the individual supports which these aspirants have given to the Party before this election season. They will not want to vote for those who just remembered them now that the elections are coming close. They will want to vote for those individuals who never abandoned the Party, and those who have always carried the Party along in all things. They will support those who supported them. Having monitored this congress, every aspirant should be able to know where the pendulum is swinging to, and instead of waiting till the primaries to begin to cause problems within the Party, it is better for them to take a walk now. Agreed that political contests can sometimes throw up surprises and make a mess of pundits permutations, there are still certain magics that are not possible in politics. I have got information that some of these returnee Party members and other passive Party members whose design of buying up delegates with money has been successfully frustrated by the Party are already writing petitions and also preparing summons against the Party in different courts. The Party must set up a good machinery in place to ensure that such aspirants are called to order or shown the way out, for such aspirants are the same people who will end up posing the biggest problems to the Party when the elections come.
