~~~ ASH WEDNESDAY ~~~ I, was 8 years old... I remember looking out of our lounge room windows to the Mt Lofty at 10 Oclock at night crying because the sky was red and we could see the fire. That my friends was on 16th February 1983. Those visions are still etched in my memory. Yes we are a pizza bar, and some have criticised for showing what we have provided.... But as a community in the grips of perhaps the biggest catastrophe since Ash Wednesday ... who knows maybe even a bigger disaster than 1983 and when times get tough and community needs to unite because people are in need ... And the Government wont provide a lot..IF ANY! It is left to communities to rally together and join forces to provide support to the inner community and the wider community. What is COMMUNITY???? It is a mammoth and nuclear word... Community can unite destruct anything they strive to. We did, what we did, for ONE simple reason. People needed Help. Being a small business who relies on community support to exist in this ever changing world you must give back to the community from which you draw your business. In the 39 Years that Riverside Pizza House has been established it has had but 2 owners, Laurie Frazer a former resident of Tea Tree Gully(now deceased) and my self.This businesses motto has always been Donate, Sponsor, Grants and help where ever you can. That is what makes this little business so big! Community based, community orientated and the corner stone of our community. Their is nothing like showing community what community can do in dire times. It takes one person to start a wave of help. People become inspired and feel the need to be included. When you help its not for the thanks..... IT IS FOR THE FEELING ... Knowing you are making some ones life a little better. We here in South Australia used to be good at it... but for many years we have been abused by multi-conglomerates and governed by powerless and bad Governments and this has damaged our spirits. In the last 72 hrs... I have become a proud South Australian again, knowing so many of you actually do care about our beautiful state... it is the nicest piece of dirt in the world... and it is ours! Defend it, Honour it, protect it but most of all love it. Salute the CFS, SES Volunteers.... they risk their lives for the protection of you for free... they dont get paid. Salute the MFS, St Johns ambos and SAPOL. You guys really are all heros! The BIGGEST HEROS are you.... we stick together and get the job done. You the community are the inner workings of community with your kindness and generosity and power of giving. We re-open on Friday from our summer holiday... their was not a lot of rest but a shop load of pride. I was 8 years old all those years ago. I could not help them then.... I made sure this time I could...
