ASK THE GROOMER: My dog is matted, but we dont want him shaved. Can you just give him a bath for us? We will not just bath a dog that is matted. Wetting/washing matted hair simply tightens the matting that is already there, in turn causing more pain/discomfort for your precious pooch. It is necessary for us to deal with the matting while your pet is here, if for no other reason then your pets comfort. This may mean clipping under the matting to remove it for the sake of your pets comfort and overall skin health, or de-matting (at the groomers discretion). Throughout the grooming industry, the term de-matting means to rip/tear the matts from your dogs skin where the tangles are usually the tightest. Many groomers will do this with no regard to your dogs comfort in order to make money, or comply to an owners request (unknowing to the owner!). We at Shag to Chic have taken a stand on this controversial issue, and we will not perform de-matting techniques that will inflict excessive pain to your pet! Please do not ask us to compromise our professional standards. Severe matting must be shaved, however we never do so without the owners consent. There are however times, based on your dogs coat type where we are able to successfully brush out matted hair without causing harm/pain to your pup. We can fully understand an owners desire to keep Fluffy fluffy!
