ASLEF says: Yet again RMT is in predictable and stereotypical style seeking to suggest some kind of nefarious collusion between ASLEF and LU. The fact of this matter is that ASLEF members have been ON STRIKE for three Boxing Days – and now a settlement has been agreed between ASLEF (the only union in dispute with the company) and LU. If any doors were closed on RMT it is because they never sought to open them – they were never in dispute on this issue – have stated openly that they were not in dispute – and they were never on strike. At no point during the past three years did they partake in any meetings or discussions on Boxing Day. Now they say the deal does not meet their aspirations. ASLEF asks: what aspirations? RMT has had three years to let ASLEF or anyone else know what they would consider acceptable as a settlement on OUR dispute, but at no time did they ever indicate that working on Boxing Day was a problem for their members. ASLEF wins a good deal for Train Drivers and opportunistically RMT seeks to embellish it in order to claim credit. For a union that lectures so frequently on management tactics of divide-and-rule, it’s strange that RMT so relish making snide remarks about ASLEF, and yet declined to fight the Boxing Day dispute until ASLEF members had done the hard yards and actually won the day.
