ASUP VOWS TO CONTINUE STRIKE!! Strike Continue, The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has said that there is no going back on the nationwide strike it embarked upon two months ago until the Federal government meets all their demands. The position of ASUP was contained in a resolution issued at end of the 74th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the union held in Oko, Anambra State, and signed by its national publicity secretary, Clement Chairman, which was made available to Daily Independent in Jos at the weekend. According to the statement, the union decried the attitude of government towards it demands that warranted the strike in the first place. The union also frowned at the crisis rocking the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and called on the Governors to conduct themselves in line with democratic principles in order to safeguard the future of the nation. ASUP also condemned the discrimination against polytechnic graduates at entry and in career progression in public service and called for a level-playing field for graduates and demanded that government adequately fund polytechnic education. It urged government to stop paying lip service to the technical education sector. The union also rejected the discriminatory cut-off points for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics and Colleges of Education and called for harmonization of the cut-off points into tertiary institutions. While frowning at the dictatorial attitude of some rectors, it also condemned corruption in the country’s public service and called on government to be more proactive in handling the challenges
