ATHENS, Ga. -- The Georgia football team continued preseason camp Friday morning with its ninth practice on the Woodruff Practice Fields. Weve got more stamina than weve had in the past, Georgia coach Mark Richt said. Its obvious we had a good offseason with conditioning. Its still tough there in the warm weather. The guys are tired, but theyre pushing through the nicks and bruises that are typical of this time of year. Theyre fighting through it physically and mentally. The Bulldogs are scheduled for another practice Friday evening, followed by their first scrimmage on Saturday at Sanford Stadium. Richt was asked what he is looking forward to in the scrimmage. Thats the first time we put it all together, he said. (At practice), we do the fundamental drills, then group work, then 11-on-11 without really moving the ball. In the scrimmage, well have drives and well see how we handle live tackling and live blocking. Richt said Georgias offensive continues to show improvement. Coach (Will) Friend has been mixing and matching the No. 1 unit, so our No. 1 and No. 2 are pretty good, Richt said. We can run our plays and we can protect. Were not worried about if we have five who can play. We want to make sure its the right five. If we have a rotation, what does that look like? Were also cross training guards and tackles in case of injuries. We can create depth with guys knowing more than one position. Overall, Richt said he feels good about what weve done so far. We see flashes from guys on both sides, Richt said. One play, theyll do it just right. The next play might not be as good. Consistency and dependability are what were looking for. We want to do it right all the time. Thats why we have 29 practices before the first game. The annual Fans Picture Day will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, in the Reed Plaza area of Sanford Stadium and will feature Richt, football players, cheerleaders, other UGA athletic teams and mascot Uga IX.
