ATT EVERYONE: We are thinking of trying something new, and are looking for FEEDBACK: Not enough people are following our group rules. Were thinking of either deleting this group, and focusing on our FB page (some of you may not be aware that we have both), or changing the admin settings so that only us admins can post. We have to change something, as this FB group has been causing us a certain amount of grief for a long time now. We love this group - it contains a huge number of wonderful animal lovers - but it also has some issues, and takes A LOT of work to maintain. One of the main problems is that outside posts are always taking over our group which is a large part of the reason you dont always see a lot of our HC animals for adoption on here - we post them, and they get pushed down the page quickly by posts about non-HC animals, or we get fed up and decide not to bother to post them for the aforementioned reason. Its been better since we switched to having to approve posts, but its still a huge problem - were flooded with post requests about lost and found animals (people dont notice the rules above that say that lost and found posts should be put in our NL Lost Pets Network page), other animals for adoption, and requests from low-income pet owners for financial assistance (we help as many as we can, but cant keep up with the demand, and the demand has gone through the roof in the last couple of years since the cost of rent, real estate, and vet care has risen substantially in this province ). Were animal lovers who want all animals to find homes, and be helped, but this is meant to be a group to promote HC animals and fundraisers. There are a lot of HC animals who need homes, and for whom we need to raise money. I personally have a problem with my own FB account, as owing to the amount I post in here, my personal account is flooded with messages about animals in need (I dont blame people for reaching out for help, but its gotten to be more than I can handle in this context). Between the amount of e-mail, and phone calls I do for HC, the amount of FB messages are overwhelming, and arent easily organized owing to FBs format; it would be easier if these requests were e-mailed to us where we can label, file, and properly keep track of them. My personal feeling is that the solution is to not delete this group, but to go with option 2 - making it so that only admins can post (that doesnt mean that group members cant comment), and me taking a break from FB for a while to preserve my sanity. Bill Peddle, Elaine Johnson, and others are willing to take on more of posting HCs available animals, success stories, and fundraisers. Perhaps two new groups can be started: one for people who need to re-home a pet (it could be called something to the effect of Adoptable Animals Of St. Johns And Surrounding Areas), and one for animals in medical distress because their owners cant afford it (maybe Lend A Helping Paw). Bearing in mind, of course, that people are welcome to also post all the above on the timeline of our FB page. What are your thoughts? Option 1: Delete this group, and everyone - hopefully - migrates to our page. Option 2. Make this group so that only admins can post, which will mean the content will go back to being primarily HC animals for adoption, HC fundraisers, and pleas for HC animals in need of vet car (we will also do some, when we have the time, for low-income pet owners), and create two new groups for outside animals, and low-income pleas. Option 3. Suggest another solution to us. Also, if we do decide to create two new groups, is there anyone willing to be an admin for one - they will likely take a lot of work, so you would have to commit so much of your time daily, like the amazing, dedicated Courtney Morrell does to our NL Lost Pets Network Page.
