ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE UPDATE Yuma, AZ – On Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at approximately 10:39 a.m., Yuma Police Officers responded to 6544 East 32nd Street, Circle K for a report of a disturbance involving a gun. Officers learned Jesse VASQUEZ (33) was involved in an altercation with a customer inside the store. VASQUEZ pointed a handgun at a male customer (35) and attempted to fire the weapon. The weapon did not work and VASQUEZ left the area in a dark blue 2000 Ford Expedition. Officers stopped the Expedition in the 3000 block of Araby Road north of the Circle K. VASQUEZ was taken into custody without incident. VASQUEZ has been arrested and charges are pending. The Yuma Police Department and the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office are working together on several shooting incidents both in the county and city limits. There is some evidence to suggest VASQUEZ may have been involved. We are actively investigating these crimes and we are looking at ballistic evidence. There have been no reported injuries during the incident at the Circle K and at any of the shooting incidents we are currently investigating. As more details become available we will update our information. UPDATE: On Tuesday, February 4, 2014 Jesse VASQUEZ was taken into custody after assaulting and attempting to shoot a male subject (35) at the Circle K on Araby Road and 32nd Street. He was booked in Yuma County Detention Center for Attempted Murder and Aggravated Assault for this case. Further investigation led to the discovery of additional crimes VASQUEZ was found to be involved in while in the City of Yuma. VASQUEZ additional charges are as follows: Case # 14-9038 – 100 block of W. Lowell Dr., Discharge of a deadly weapon and Criminal Damage. Case # 14-9098 – 1300 block of E. 24th Pl., Discharge of a deadly weapon. There are two additional cases under investigation which occurred on Monday, February 3, 2014 that VASQUEZ may have been involved with but he has not been charged: Case # 14-8929- 100 block of W. Lowell Dr., Discharge of a deadly weapon. Case # 14-8958- 1300 block of E. 25th St., Discharge of a deadly weapon and Criminal Damage.
