ATTENTION ALL HOKIE FANS!! I have a challenge for you today - Josh (see story below) is a VT grad and needs our help. Will you commit to donating $$ amount equal to whatever the HOKIES score is today?!? (See link attached to make donation) How awesome would that be - to see fellow HOKIES support this young man!?! If you commit to joining me, write in the comments Hokie strong for Josh Smith! THANK YOU!!!! Xoxo Laura here is something his mom wrote recently Medically, Josh is considered a C-5 quadriplegic. There is so much more information that we are learning and processing but feel the time is just not right to share. From day one we were given very grim news regarding the extent of his injury and what to expect. Yet none of the really awful things that could have happened did. Josh continues to amaze everyone with all he has accomplished and how medically stable he has been all along. We give God the glory for creating him to have such a strong and resilient body and personality! And we are so thankful for the many miracles that have happened along the way! S Joshs doctor at Shepherd is a Christian and continues to encourage Josh to keep up the great work! She told Josh that she never tells a patient they will not ever walk again. And she said she wishes all her patients were like him! She has very high hopes for Josh and his future! Spinal cord swelling can take up to 2 years to go down completely. Even then that is not a given time frame. Everyone is so uniquely different in their recovery. Though patience is an absolute necessity for Josh, every day I see him become more and more patient as he grasps the reality of his injury and circumstances. And through the education process concerning his injury, he is seeing that what seemed like insurmountable obstacles are really just challenges that with hard work and a smart and positive mind can be overcome. Rest too is so very important but sometimes it can be very hard to slow him down enough to do that. However, his body is starting to really talk to him about the need to rest and he has no choice but to listen! Each day, we are beginning to grasp more and more how life changing this is for all of us; but ESPECIALLY Josh. With the extent of his spinal cord injury comes an enormous amount of costs that we cant even begin to comprehend right now. We have laid EVERYTHING at the feet of Jesus and are Fully Reliant On God (FROG) to provide ALL our needs. PLEASE pray about helping to financially support Josh through the HelpHOPELive organization. My daughter, Katie Springer Smith, has posted a link on her page and I have shared this link on mine. As I work to better understand how to keep this need known, you may see it continue to pop up on your NEWSFEED. PLEASE SHARE the link and give as you feel led. This is an incredible and trustworthy organization! We are very thankful to Joshs sister for working with this organization and setting up this account for him! We also want to thank Shepherd Center for letting us know about the organization and for Kelly Sydnor, who having done so much research on fund raising for her own son, was able to help both Katie and I with questions about all of this. She is one woman who I trust her decisions and have great admiration and respect for her. Joshs doctor, Dr. Elmers, said that Josh knows NO LIMITS! We know that God has AMAZING plans for Josh and we have just seen a tiny glimpse thus far of what is to come! God bless each and everyone of you who are praying, sending cards and gifts, giving words of encouragements, sharing meaningful songs, and coming up with special and unique ways to be a blessing to him and our family. We love you all so much!!!
