ATTENTION CAMANCHE HS DRAMA FAMILY (please read ALL): I am officially announcing the spring play, and it is one I am writing myself. Its called FALLING AWAKE and AUDITIONS are THIS THURSDAY, December 18 from 4:00 to 7:45 IN MY CLASSROOM. The play is about a young woman who gets into a car accident, which leaves her comatose. While she is unconscious in our world, she wakes in another—one filled with fantastic and funny and frightening people. Frightened, she desperately searches for a way to wake up—to return her consciousness to her body, and in the process comes to learn that everyone in this world is comatose in our world as well—some longer than others. She also learns that the longer someone spends in this world, the less likely they are to awaken from their coma in the real world. Over time she comes to love this new existence and the people shes met, and decides to stay with them, slowly losing all memory of her real identity. No sooner does she come to terms with her new life than she learns the only way she can stay in this world is if she is left comatose, but she’s been gone for so long, her parents are thinking of pulling the plug. She resolves to find a way to get them to let her live before its too late for her in either world… Now, I have several important characters named (look for a list outside my room Monday or Tuesday) and basically fleshed out, but since this show is 95% still locked in my head, several characters dont exist yet. Thats where many of you will come in. You will audition with the few pieces/characters I provide for you on Thursday, but its important you BRING SOMETHING UNIQUE to present at auditions, because several characters will be written based on what I can visualize them doing and being in the final product, in other words, many parts will be written specifically for YOU. SO, being cast in the ensemble may not be the final casting place for SEVERAL of you. People who impress me not only with their performances **but also their attitudes** will rise higher.
