**** ((((ATTENTION PHOENIX EV AUTO OWNERS AND SRP CUSTOMERS))) **** Hi, My name is Christina Sampson and Im an electric vehicle owner and SRP customer in Phoenix, Arizona. Im asking for your support in helping the growing electric vehicle community fight proposed Salt River Project (SRP) pricing changes that will discourage people from purchasing electric vehicles and driving clean. Specifically, SRP is proposing a new Time of Use plan that would offer EV users a super-reduced rate between the time of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., ostensibly when we would be charging our car. Sounds good at first, right? However, when one signs up for that plan, the customer pays an egregious surcharge on their normal power during both peak and off-peak hours -- regardless of whether or not their vehicle is plugged in. The savings from plugging in ones car during the super-reduced time period (about 50 cents a day) are far surpassed by the increased cost of power during the other 17 hours a day. Thats not a discount; in fact, SRP stands to earn more money from EV users than regular users under the EV Time Of Use Plan. Thats not supporting people who are doing their part to be environmentally conscious. At the end of the day, its a fiscal penalty that essentially functions as a tax. And thats unacceptable. Would we be required to register our car? Would those of us who charge using an adapted trickle charger pay a different rate than those with wall unit charging stations? Would a Tesla be charged differently than a LEAF because their charging processes differ? I dont know; none of the three (3) questions I submitted at yesterdays public comment meeting were selected or answered. But Im guessing theyre questions some of you have as well. SRP will likely protest that the plan is experimental and that one is not required to sign up for the EV time of use plan. True, but how many experimental proposals are ultimately passed quietly in little-publicized board meetings and become policy? For that matter, how many of you even knew about this proposed change in the first place? If you called SRP or searched online, you would not have been able to find the surcharge rate, and they were *not* mentioned in yesterdays Power Point presentation. That in itself indicates SRP doesnt want the EV community aware of its strategy to deal with EV owners. SRP needs to know were here and were paying attention. We want SRP to go back to the drawing board with more input and data from us, the EV community, to develop fair, sensible and reasonable pricing plans for our power needs. Wed like to see all of you at the Feb. 9th public comment meeting (see below for details) and have your voices join ours against these anti-EV owner proposals. Thanks, Christina Sampson (602) 321-1243 Presentations and comments SRP PERA Club 1 E. Continental Dr. Tempe, AZ 85281 Feb. 9, 2015, 9:30 a.m. Board decision meeting SRP PERA Club 1 E.
