AURORA POLICE: PLEASE LOCK VEHICLES AND STOW VALUABLES On the heels of 68 burglaries from vehicles so far this year, 21 of which have occurred in the first 17 days of March, Aurora Police are again reminding residents of the importance of locking cars and trucks and stowing anything of value out of sight. Forty-six of the burglaries in 2014 have involved unlocked vehicles. Of the 21 incidents in March, 16 were unlocked. “And by looking at the items stolen, it’s pretty evident the valuables were left in plain view for the burglars”, said Chief of Police Greg Thomas. The list of stolen items includes lap top computers, GPS devices, wallets, purses, cash, clothing, and other valuables. The burglaries share other similarities: they’ve happened citywide, mostly in the overnight hours, and the vast majority of the vehicles hit were in residential driveways. Police have no concrete suspect descriptions. “Burglaries from vehicles are crimes of opportunity that take only a few seconds to pull off,” added Chief Tomas. “Those few extra seconds to assure windows are locked and valuables are stashed out of sight takes the opportunity away from a burglar and would save our residents a lot of headaches.” Police are reminding citizens to call 9-1-1 if they see anything or anyone suspicious in their neighborhoods. Anyone who may have information on any of the vehicle burglaries is urged to call Aurora Police Investigations at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630) 892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5000 for information that leads to any arrests.
