@AUS_Med #townsville shines Quite extraordinary to note this post from Sydney when I was with someone at a specialist in Townsville recently and the receptionist drummed her fingers (with an appropriate facial expression) while the patient was taking out her credit card!!! The process was not taking unduly long and the receptionist had no other patients or apparent work to attend to. Then at another specialists rooms, I know of 2 occasions where the receptionists just said to leave the referrals with them and they would get back to the patient. Case 1 - After the office lost the first referral, the patient supplied another copy - that was June 2012 and the patient is still waiting on a call back from them with an appointment! Sad, but true. The patient eventually decided that Brisbane was a better solution. Case 2 - Again, the receptionist didnt call and eventually after a couple more wasted follow ups, the patients asked for a referral to a different doctor. I have also just been made aware of 2 specialty medical tests that are conducted in Brisbane and Cairns, but not Townsville. In case anyone needs to know, we could do with more specialists as well as lots more staff training here! People are usually in those surgeries because they are ill. Surprise?
