AUTHORS & BOOK LOVERS: I know a lot of authors and publishing - TopicsExpress

AUTHORS & BOOK LOVERS: I know a lot of authors and publishing consultants advise expanding your books description on Amazon with quotes from positive reviews, teaser hooks (e.g., Clara Thorne has 23 hours to save her sons life, but first she must escape from the clutches of a madman! [in boldface]), etc. etc., but as a shopper/reader I strongly dislike lengthy, sales-pitchy descriptions and will often skip a book entirely based on that factor alone. I dont want a three-paragraph sales pitch that tells me about all the *other* people who loved this book (e.g., awards won, charting on bestseller lists, quotes from positive reviews) because I know there are plenty of super-popular books I ended up *hating*. I just want to be told what the books about so I can decide if its worth looking at the excerpt. Then Ill make a purchase decision based on the excerpt and price. But maybe Im oversensitive to marketing hype and it really does work with most prospective buyers. Thoughts?
