AUTOBIOGRAPHY Twenty three (23) years old, standing at a massive 6 feet and hailing from the strikingly East Bank of Demerara is Alicia Bess, a girl who never walks when she can run, who possesses a humble personality filled with ambition, and the qualities of generosity and thoughtfulness. She is a pleasantly calm, well determined and vigorous individual who embodies the philosophy that with hard work and determination one can accomplish anything he/she set his/her mind too. She encourages fighting for what you desire and believe in, and doing it through God because nothing great comes easy and with God everything is possible. This remarkable young lady has had a well-traveled journey during her short life, epitomizing the Strong, Focused, Dedicated, Cultured and Humble vision that we associate with our Guyanese women. From the tender age of four, she displayed a passion for the arts and sporting activities and enrolled in track & fields, dance, drama and singing. Her mother constantly encouraged her to take part in many diverse activities in the spirit of wanting her to experience the most she could. In keeping with the desire to help and give back to society and humanity, Alicia is also a peer educator offering advice on various social issues and assistance to persons in need. Her hard work and constant involvement with the Arts was recognized when she was chosen within a group of three young ladies to represent Guyana within the twin Islands of Trinidad & Tobago for a cultural show and competition. In 2009 she was rewarded an Arts and Culture Award for her constant involvement in the three arts Drama, Singing and Dancing. Always searching for a new challenge Alicia ventured into the world of pageantry and won her very first pageant Miss East Bank Supermodel in 2010 and brought 1st runner up in the Miss RBL Caricom Pageant in the same year. She later went on to be one of the featured models of Guyana Fashion Weekend 2010. She continued her passion for pageantry by placing 1st Runner up in the recently concluded Miss Bartica Regatta Pageant 2013 while simultaneously winning Miss Congeniality in the same Pageant. Always a diligent student, she worked hard to obtain excellent grades and was more than just academically excellent. After obtaining nine (9) CXC qualifications inclusive of three distinctions she graduated from the St. Joseph High School and then went on to St Roses High where she graduated as Valedictorian after topping St. Roses High “A” Levels examination. She is currently enrolled as both an ACCA and ABE student with the hopes of reading for her Master’s in Business Management in 2014. In addition to a busy academic life, Alicia is the Administrative Manager and Executive Aide at AU Drilling Inc. and President of her Charity group “Expressions – Beacon of Hope”. Alicia decided to join the Miss Jamzone Pageant as a way of showcasing her love and passion for the Tourism Industry and her country at large. She is a firm believer of Staycation tourism and the need to support and invest in the country’s growing economy and tourism industry so as to enable Guyana to compete more easily on the world market. If chosen as queen Alicia intends to use her reign to promote and educate the various sectors on Guyana’s growing Tourism Industry and assist in the development of the lives of those less fortunate. For a country is only as strong as its human resources and in order to succeed you need to start from the bottom up. So join in showing your support for Miss Alicia Nichola Bess, a woman of substance in the 21st century.
