AVRDC-The World Vegetable Center Project Coordinator (Fiji) Position AVRDC – The World Vegetable Center is a non-profit, autonomous international agricultural research center with headquarters in Taiwan and regional offices around the globe. AVRDC conducts research and development programs that contribute to improved incomes and diets in the developing world through increased production and consumption of safe vegetables. AVRDC seeks applications for a Project Coordinator, to be based in Fiji to coordinate and implement projects as well as develop new projects in Pacific Island countries. Working experience in the pacific region is highly desirable. The Center’s current focus in the Pacific is to support sustainable intensification of high-value vegetable crops in partnerships with advanced research institutions and national agriculture and extensions systems specifically in Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Samoa. The approaches include strengthening integrated crop management research and linking farmers to markets. The Center intends to develop further partnerships in the region to increase production and consumption of vegetables to address the health concerns associated with lack of nutritional diversity in diets and to enhance resilience of local communities to help manage the effects of climate change on agricultural productivity. The Job: Plan, coordinate and execute various project-related activities in the target countries. Organize and coordinate training to build and strengthen the capacity of local partners in carrying out research and extension activities on vegetable production and marketing. Prepare reports, publications, and presentations as needed. Represent the Center in the region and assist the Center develop new projects following its mission and strategic plan. The Person: A Masters or a doctorate degree in horticulture, agriculture, economics, or other related subjects with a minimum of five years’ experience in implementing and managing agricultural research and extension projects. Experience in project management, participatory research, farmer community development, good communication and analytical skills are essential. Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Ability to communicate in local languages will be an advantage. . The candidate must be able to work as a member of interdisciplinary teams in a multicultural and multinational environment. The Reward: This is an Internationally Recruited Staff (IRS) position with competitive pay and benefits.
