AWARD :: Today AlexandriaVA.gov employees will receive their Employee Service Awards for years of service (in increments of five). Did you know that the Police Department has three employees with 35 YEARS of service each? That is pretty amazing! Betty Palmer, School Crossing Guard for Charles Barrett Elementary School: Crossing Guard Palmer stands at the intersection of Valley and Glebe twice a day, as she has for the past 35 years, to safely guide school children across the streets of Alexandria. Paula Czarnowsky, Administrative Assistant, Crime Scene Investigations: Ms. Czarnowsky has been a part of the “ID Unit”, as it was formerly called, for 29 years, and worked in Police Department records for six years. Earl Cook, Chief of Police: Chief Cook has spent his entire career as a member of the Alexandria Police Department. In 2009, Chief Cook was appointed Chief of Police of the Alexandria Police Department. He is the first African American to serve as Chief of Police in Alexandria.
