If you are expecting and your due date is within a month (or two), NOW is the absolute best time to schedule your newborn session. The best time to photograph your new bundle of joy is within 15 days of his or her birth. It is normally after the 3rd week of being born they tend to sleep less, be more alert, and lose that special little curl from being in the mamas womb. It is also after the 3rd week (or so) that they start taking on more weight and losing the ever so special newborn look. I have clients who will email, text, or call me while in the hospital and even some that have contacted me right before labor! I tend to become as excited as them when I know in a few hours a baby is on their way! I absolutely LOVE it when parents contact me so quickly! It is also the best to photograph your newborn while they are sleeping. I know we all love it when they open their tiny little eyes and look straight at us (I love it too when Im photographing a tiny little baby), but to get those sweet, gentle poses, a sleeping baby is the best. A full tummy, mommys rocking, and a clean diaper help to make baby content and ready to sleep and ultimately ready to POSE FOR THE CAMERA (and for us who are in the studio loving every minute of it). I cannot even begin to tell everyone how often I hear parents say they wish they would have taken the time to have portraits made of their newborn. They change so quickly and in a blink of an eye. It is a small window to capture the brand new that comes with your newborn baby. If you know someone who is expecting or just had a baby, please pass this along!
