AWR 308- Natural Disaster Awareness for Caregivers of Senior CITIZENS!ourse Description Senior citizens are particularly vulnerable to natural hazards. Factors such as physical limitations, mental ailments, and medication requirements are issues of concern for caregivers of senior citizens. These specific needs, amongst other considerations for natural hazards, must be addressed in preparedness plans for these at-risk citizens. This course is designed to enhance the caregiver’s awareness of vulnerability factors associated with senior citizens. Participants will learn how to identify, prepare, and perform a number of support activities that will ensure the safety and security of senior citizens when a natural hazard event occurs. Particular attention is directed toward developing an awareness of the preparedness and response needs of all senior citizens, inclusive of economic, medical, cognitive and mobility determinants. Target Audience This course is intended for senior care providers (including family members, friends, personal attendants, home health agencies, in-house services, roommates, and medical personnel), care providers, emergency managers, and first responders Cost, Prerequisites and Requirements There are no participant costs, prerequisites or requirements for this course. It is brought to you by the Emergency Management Division- Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency and Peace Health South West Emergency Preparedness Office. Delivery method, time and location The University of Hawaii- Natural Disaster Preparedness Training Center will conduct this instructor led class on Monday and Tuesday October 28th and 29th 2013 at Peace Health SW Medical Center, 400 NE Mother Joseph PL, Vancouver WA. Sign in at 730 and class is in session from 8:00 until 12:00.
