AZAR TRANSITIONAL HOUSING Teacher Counselor Aide – Casual 4PM to 11Pm shift Monday-Thursday Teacher Counselor Aide - Floater - All Shifts Job summary: Responsible for oversight of the milieu and troubleshooting issues, facilitating groups, managing meal time and coordinating program activities with participants. The Teacher Counselor will transport participants as necessary, plan external activities, get help for participants and control the resident population in conjunction with Program Director. Essential Functions: 1. Provide culturally competent crisis intervention, peer counseling and life skills training to shelter/transitional residents. This includes providing advocacy, accompaniment, transportation, and some case management. Assist clients through providing information and assistance with temporary restraining orders and custody issues. Assist participants through legal and medical processes. 2. Collaborate with law enforcement, CYF, Victim/Witness, social service organizations and other program to ensure quality services for shelter/transitional residents. 3. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings with Program Director. Meet daily with Case Manager to discuss client progress, safety issues, and ongoing participant evaluations/needs 4. Support all participants in achieving their goals and/or reevaluating goals set upon becoming a resident. 5. Enforce the transitional housing property cleanliness policies. 6. Assist to keep clean and sanitize all rooms within the transitional housing unit. This includes but not limited to moping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing fixtures, washing down walls and doors, washing interior and exterior windows, and cleaning window blinds and coverings. 7. Launder all bedding items, kitchen and bathroom towels, washable living quarter items, cleaning cloths/rags, and dust mop covers upon participant vacating a room or unit. 8. Aid in rearranging and or moving furniture as necessary. 9. Work with participant to provide outdoor maintenance as needed. This includes light gardening, trash removal and snow removal. Conduct daily shelter and bi-weekly transitional property assessments to identify and address needed repairs. 10. Complete weekly, or as needed, supply and grocery shopping for transitional emergency food closet. 11. Properly store and organize all food, supplies, and tools for transitional housing properties. Experience and Education: 1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associate degree in social work or related field preferred. 2. Must have minimum of one-year experience working with homeless or similar population. Other: 1. Attend staff meetings. 2. Assist with fundraising and community education. 3. Maintain skill level through reading and attending trainings that are required. 4. Other duties as assigned. Physical and Environmental Conditions: Work requires light physical effort in the handling of light materials or boxes in non-strenuous work positions of up to 30 pounds and/or continual standing or walking 60+% of the time. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, residences, or vehicles, e.g. use of safe work place practices, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and safely operating a motor vehicle, an d other residential or office type equipment. May be exposed to aggressive human behavior.
