Aangun Yatxi is our new group name, it means children of Angoon the old way of saying Angoon, we are not getting a fast start like I hoped but we will make it with all those who have voiced the need for another Angoon group I would like to see you step up because now is the time. We dont want to take away from what the Kootz group does and is, this group was brought about to fill a need and the concern to not let Angoon slip through the cracks this celebration and is the only reason Pauline stepped up, it was not formed in retaliation despite what people may think. Right now myself and Pauline Jim have come together to get this group started and push to make it a success but our success depends on those involved, your only as strong as your weakest link. We have canceled the two practices that we had planned due to the death of two very important Deisheetaan elders, we do plan on meeting on Saturday at 6pm, I highly encourage those who are on the fence to come to the meeting and see what this group is about. We started this group with lots of goals here is a quick break down. *Language emersion in our schools *Canoe Journeys for the teen dance members from AK to WA *Attend pow-wows and celebrations here and possibly Canada *Commission new hats *Commission new blankets *Cultural Exchange *Regular Dance Practices (Year round) There has been lots of talk that this group is baring certain people from joining, please know this is NOT true! we want an open group but we do want people to be as dedicated as other dance group members, for far too long people have not put in the work or time and just jumped in the group when it suited them, if our dance group members put in time it is unfair to give that spot to someone who doesnt help the group out so we will need a real commitment from people in Juneau and here in Angoon. We do have a location in mind for those of you in Juneau to practice and a few amazing people who are willing to help us out with protocol, song and dance. We are very fortunate for that and I hope this is good news for those of you in Juneau. Song choices will be made and we will record the songs we decide on and make sure our dance group members get this CD. PLEASE PASS THIS STATUS ON TO THOSE WHO MAY BE INTRESTED OR THOSE WHO HAVE QUESTIONS. Anyone wants to know who started this group tell them Pauline Jim and Dawn Wood....
