The position as assistant professor is a three-year fixed-term appointment with the possibility of re-appointment to the position of associate professorship in Islam. The position We are seeking a dedicated candidate that will contribute to develop research and teaching in Islam at the section for the Study of Religion. The section for the Study of Religion is an ambitious and internationally oriented research environment encouraging an interdisciplinary approach to religion. The section for the Study of Religion is placed within the Department of Culture and Society, which holds a thriving research environment specifically related to Islam, including Anthropology and Arab and Islamic Studies. The candidate is expected to contribute to the development of this research environment. The applicant will be expected to participate actively in a relevant research programme at the Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University. We are looking for a candidate, who can demonstrate international commitment and ability to collaborate with key areas of national and international research within the fields of the Study of Religion in general and Islam more specifically. Research We are interested in a candidate with a strong research profile in the study of Islam. Documented insight into formative Islam is important, and insight into contemporary issues would be an advantage, but not a prerequisite. While based within the Study of Religion programme, the successful candidate will also be expected to teach and develop activities at the broader departmental level, which will include cooperation with the Islamic Cultures and Societies Research Unit. Teaching The successful candidate will teach a range of introductory and advanced courses on Islam and carry out BA and MA supervision. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in teaching and educational development. The Study of Religion programme at Aarhus University The Study of Religion is concerned with religion in the most comprehensive sense. The studies cover all major world religions and other religions as well as phenomena essential to the history of religion, both past and present.
