I am a believer, but here are some scientific inventions or discoveries that if true would contradict religion and prove that there is no God. 1- Artificial intelligence: Strong AI the capacity for human beings to create conscious robots would contradict God. This is not only because it would put the power of creation in mere mortal hands, but it would prove that there is nothing special about our own creation. We would be thinking machines and as such most likely the product of a slow random process like evolution. 2- Aliens: God could possibly have created us and created others. But this will shake the christian religion and the specificity of God becoming man. Some other religions might be able to recover though or adapt. So this is weaker than the AI argument. 3-Multiverse: This is the theory that there is an infinite number of universes with infinite configuration. If this is true, then there is nothing special about our universe. It was the result of nature trying all possibilities or rather a random process. the number of planets in the universe is not enough of an evidence of the randomness of creation. This is because the probability of life 1 in 200 billion is still pretty high. the number of configurations of life in infinitely larger. But a mutliverse means that all possibilities have indeed been tried. 4- Immortality: This would remove the need to believe in God. He might still exist, but without the need of belief we might as well consider God as non existent. 5- Utopia: Things like solving scarcity on earth. Free fusion energy. machines making all items we need. Cures for diseases (without immortality). God might still exist, but in a world where everyone is happy and no one is needy might be seen as heaven on earth. If heaven was created here then without God then why would people need him in the afterlife. I think in such scenario only Buddhism would survive even thrive, as it is one belief that encourages humanity to make heaven here on earth. People would imagine that they will come back to this earthly heaven when they die. But in such a scenario you could still say that God still exists but he had triumphed over evil or something like that. What do you think? are there others?
