Aaron Pico takes a silver medal at 145 lbs in the under 21 year old world championship at only 17. Pretty impressive in probably the deepest weight class in numbers and talent, even though so many in the USA were handing him the gold at weigh ins. That said, I will make a bold observation (shocking, I know). If USA wrestling and his coaches want to guide him in his best interests he will do nothing but greco from this minute through next years junior world championship. Nothing.- But. Greco. I realize I am a greco guy and its a matter of opinion, but I challenge anyone to take up the discussion on this...Pico, his dad, his coaches, USA Wrestling...anyone. First off his left hand overtie/shrug setting up his head/elbow snap sweep to the right is one of the most lethal attacks of anyone in the world at any age. That said, he is showing to be one dimensional on it and book is now out. The Iranian shut it down and out hand fought him, as did the Japanese guy in round 1 until Aaron wore him out in the 2nd period. Second, his goal after international wrestling is to be MMA world champion...greco-roman...case-closed on that. Lastly it follows the universal truth as taught by Joseph A. DeMeo. The best thing any freestyle wrestler can do is a year of concentrated greco. That is all my friends...carry on.
