Aashuraa in Summary: 1 – It’s about the optional and non-obligatory fasting of the 10th day of the first Islamic month of the year called Muharram in commemoration of the day Allah saved Musa (Moses) and his followers from their enemy Fir’awn (Pharoah) and his followers. 2 – For most countries and cities around the world it will fall on Thursday 14th November 2013. Please note that the date may vary based on the moon sightings in each country. 3 – It wipes the sins of an entire year (Sahih Muslim) 4 –Although it may be fasted on the 10th only, it is desirable to fast an additional day before or after the 10th so as to oppose the Jews who also venerate this day. 5- The preferred day to fast along with the 10th is the 9th, and for those who missed the 9th, then fasting the 11th becomes desirable. 6- It is permissible to fast all 3 consecutive days (9th, 10th, 11th), as the most beloved fasting to Allah after fasting the days of Ramadan is the fasting of the days during Muharram.
