Abandoned Kittens... We dont usually rescue cats however on Friday evening after a desperate plea for help, we had to respond. When driving home Julie, the caller, noticed tiny kittens running about in the road just after the bridge on Rosliston Road South near Stapenhill. She immediately came to the aid of the kittens and coaxed them over to safety whilst her husband went to fetch a box. After calling various other rescues that were either closed or couldnt help, she called us as we had helped animals she had found before. She brought the four kittens to us and we put them into a pen with food, water, bedding and a little tray. There were four kittens, strangely three were approximately five to six weeks old and one was approximately eight weeks old. so these youngsters were from two different litters. We arranged to go back to the area they were found with Julie, just incase there were anymore kittens about. We didnt find any however we came across a box with hay in that also had ventilation holes so we presume this is what they were left in. All kittens had a vet check on Monday morning where it was found they had a worm infestation and the youngest ones were lean but otherwise all were ok. We suspect that the previous owner could not rehome the kittens and decided this was the only way to be rid of them. Sadly black cats are very hard to rehome and the majority of rescue centres are full of cats and are unable to take more on. This is an increasing problem and the only way to ensure it does not happen is by educating owners and promoting neutering. Female cats can breed from an early age, as early as 5 months. Having just one litter leads to more unwanted kittens being born as some owners will totally abandon a cat once it reaches maturity. If it wasnt for Julie rescuing them, these kittens would most likely of been hit by a car. These little ones have been wormed and flea treated and are now being fed up. They will be up for rehoming in two weeks. If you think you can offer one a home please get in touch via inbox or call 07780742748. These kittens will be subject to a small donation and adoption agreement to ensure they are neutered as soon as they mature.
