Abbey, I know you spent some time in Haiti. I just returned from my 7th trip there since 08. For the life of me, I cant figure out why the heck the UN is in Haiti, other than to spread cholera, maintain the status quo, protect wealthy corporate interests, etc. Tent cities are still everywhere. The UN raided a house next to one I was visiting in Hinche and carted off the residents. A massive new multi-million dollar prison complex is being built in the same town. My Haitian friends say the UN will drive by a house, see a goat, and just take it - because they have the guns and they can. Is Haiti just a training ground for these countries militaries? Is the international economic system still punishing Haiti for its successful defiance of said system, ala the slave rebellion? I dont get it. And Im pissed off and sad for my friends there. Any insights you might have would be appreciated. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
