Abductors free Ugbome, expectations high on Ozekhome FIFTEEN days after his kidnap, indications emerged Sunday that human rights lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), might be freed today as discussions currently ongoing between his abductors and the family are said to be positive. Expectations about Ozekhome’s release became higher when the kidnappers yesterday released a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Athanasius Ugbome, who was abducted alongside Ozekhome. Sources at Edo State Police Command also confirmed Ugbome’s release. Meanwhile, Silverbird Radio had in its 7a.m, 8a.m and 12noon news broadcasts monitored in Benin, said that Ozekhome had been released, but it was learnt that the police planned to secure the release of all those abducted along the Benin-Auchi road on the same day. His rumoured release gave rise to jubilation in Benin City and his Oviukwe community, but that was short-lived when only Ugbome was sighted. Nevertheless, a police source added, “we are also expecting the release of Ozekhome any moment from now.”
