Abdul Wahab Saleem: The scholars consider the practice of delaying someone who wants to accept Islam a major sin to say the least even if it were to be for a mere shower. Al-Imam al-Nawawi and others clearly mentioned that even if the Imam is on the pulpit he is required to discontinue the Khutbah to help the individual accept Islam. Ibn al-Attār reported a consensus of the Islamic scholars on this matter. The Messenger Muhammad -SAWS- was once giving a Khutbah when a man appeared and requested that he attend to him to help him convert. The Messenger -SAWS- immediately got off the pulpit and the companions brought a chair for him upon which he sat, taught him the tenants of faith and helped him convert to Islam. Thereafter, he got off the chair, stepped back on the pulpit and continued the Khutbah. [Muslim] The coming years are going to see a tidal wave of ideas because of the growing Islamophobic lobbies and the reactionary Muslim clerics who struggle to find solutions for the pressures they face. The greatest challenge of these years will be to present theologically consistent and sociologically compatible solutions for the resilient and growing problems of the postmodern era.
