Abdullah ibn Mas’ood(radhi allahu anhu) reported: The Messenger of Allah(peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Verily, Allah has divided your character between you just as He has divided your provision between you. Verily, Allah the Exalted gives the world to those He loves and to those He does not love, but He only gives the religion to those He loves. Whoever is given the religion, then Allah has loved him. By the one in whose hand is my soul, a servant will not submit until he submits his heart and his tongue. None of you has faith until his neighbor is safe from his evil.” They said, “What is its evil, O Prophet of Allah?” The Prophet(sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “His tyranny and oppression. A servant cannot earn wealth from what is forbidden and spend it and receive blessings in it. He cannot give in charity from it and have it be accepted. He cannot leave it behind his back except that it increases him in the Hellfire. Verily, Allah the Exalted does not expiate an evil deed with an evil deed. Rather, He expiates an evil deed with a good deed. Verily, a wicked deed cannot expiate a wicked deed.” Musnad Ahmad 3663
