Aboard Erie Spirit May 18th 2014 1:15pm EDT. Lat S 06 degrees 52 minutes, Lon W 116 degrees 02 minutes. 1402 out of 2909 miles to go. Winds E 12kts, boat speed 4.5-5.0kts, heading 250 degrees. All is still well aboard. The winds are more out of the East, so we are very close to being on a run, I think the pole will go up wing on wing at watch change. The boat is moving along well, although we wont be setting any speed records today, but as long as we can maintain over 100 mile days, I am happy. Finally broke out some beef from the freezer for dinner last night - Filet Mignon with baked potato and grilled (stove top) onions and mushrooms, and glazed carrots to finish. Very good. Had a hit on my super duper never fail plastic squid lure this morning - Now I have to make a new one, as whatever it was ran the reel, and broke the line. Probably ought to put new line on it anyways, as it is 50# test, and somewhat old. A project for this afternoon I guess. Been reading some of our cruising guides for the upcoming Islands, and got into Pitcairn Island history. While history is not my strong point, I think we all know that Pitcairn is where the mutineers from the Bounty ended up. There are about 80 people that currently live on the island, almost all decedents from the crew of the Bounty. The ship was set afire and sunk in one of the bays of the island by Fletcher Christian. What I did not know/forgot was that the Mutiny took place in the Kingdom of Tonga, about 2000 miles west of Pitcairn, so Fletcher and the group sailed into the wind that far to find a suitable place to hide. Bligh was set adrift in Tonga, which currently is the only non colonized Kingdom in the world. Rumor has it that Bligh was set adrift with supplies and muskets, and the muskets were used by the then King of Tonga to defeat any enemies, and that is why it exists as a Kingdom to this day.... rumor has it..... That is all for now, see you on the water, Mark & Susan
