About 14 years ago I adopted a broken down old yellow lab who had been abandoned. It soon became obvious that Luke had been a service dog of some kind. So I started taking him with me when I went to St George to visit my Dad, who was still alive at the time. Dad was living at St George Rehab. Once I got permission to bring Luke inside, it was amazing to see the effect he had on people. Alzheimers patients who were pretty much dead inside would brighten up like little kids as soon as they saw Luke. One old man in particular never spoke to me but would always talk to Luke. His eyes would light up with joy just to have Luke at hand. I took Luke all over the hospital so everyone who wanted to see him would get the chance. He was the kindest and most patient dog anyone could ever want. He only stayed with me for about 18 months before his age caught up with him and I had to let him go. But I still think of him and miss him every day. This video made me remember and appreciate Luke even more. I do know that animals can interact with those who are needy in a way that people cant. Ive seen it happen many times. Happy Sunday.
