About 15 years ago, I had a very dear friend. But as people do, we drifted and lost touch. I always assumed wed catch up again one of these days, but it never seemed urgent. We were the kind of friends who could pick right back up where we left off. Then I recently found some old photos of his (remember disposable 35mm cameras? Apparently we got ours mixed up at some point, and I ended up with a bunch of his stuff in the middle of one of my rolls) So I went facebook-stalking to see if I could find him to return them to him. And I discovered that he died five years ago, at the age of 38. So Im dedicating this song to my old friend, Declan ONeill. Missing him was different when I believed he was still out there somewhere being himself, and being in the world. Knowing now that hes gone - that hes BEEN gone - I just cant even wrap my head around it. Theres a verse in there: Could you be dead? You always were two steps ahead... of everyone. Wed walk behind while you would run. And yeah.. thats what happened alright. So hey, folks... if theres someone youre missing... you might want to get on that. Shit happens. You never know when later will turn into too late.
