About 25 persons die in Benue Cholera outbreak About 25 persons are feared dead in a Cholera outbreak in Makurdi suburbs, where residents live with potable water and in unhygienic situation. Though Governor Gabriel Suswam has completed the new Makurdi Water Works, the project has been of little use to the people as there is no reticulation mechanism in place. The area worse hit is the Wadata suburb, where non indigenes, especially Hausa, Igbo and other Nigerians reside. Facilities in this area have been completely neglected by successive governments in the state. Several victims of the outbreak are receiving treatment at Jolua Hospital and Hope Hospital, both in Wadata. A medical practititioner, Dr Adole Edoh decried the outbreak saying that over 70percent of Wadata residents have been affected. He said two persons died in his hospital. Similarly, Mrs Agatha Nyiethagher also confirmed two deaths in the hospital where she works as matron. The spokesman of Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Cephas Hough informed that the facility is tackling several cases of Cholera. The State Director of Public Health, Joseph Kumba declined comment.
