About 30 years ago, my snarky sister flipped the bird to an aggressive driver who cut her off on a 4 lane highway. She learned that day that although she has the right to do what she did, he had a right to follow her to her rural home. He pulled into her driveway behind her. When she and my niece got out of their car, the man pointed his finger gun, and pretend fired a couple of rounds at them. They ran into the house, and the angry motorist drove away. I have warned everyone I know that you dont know whats going on with random strangers. Get a grip, and dont interact with angry or aggressive drivers. That point has been proven thousands of times, all over the world. This week, a few miles from my rural residence, it was demonstrated in spades. Following some kind of traffic incident, a man followed a father and son into a parking lot to confront them. Heres where arguements for several hot button issues could arise. It happened in a 1 traffic light town in very rural Chenango County, in upstate NY. Both sides pushed their points. Tempers flared. One party had a handgun. He pulled it out and shot both of the other parties. The shooter is a person you might think would be more resistant to stress in an altercation than most. The 56 year old shooter is a retired NYC police officer. The 60 yr. old father is recovering. His 26 yr. old son will be buried this week. Once again, I ask all of my family and friends to please not confront strangers over insignificant matters such as traffic issues. Ask yourself, is being forced to hit your brakes worth dying for?
