About .5% of people I know know this about my family, but now - TopicsExpress

About .5% of people I know know this about my family, but now there is an especially good reason to bring it up. In the late 70s, the world was facing a humanitarian crisis. Cambodian dictator Pol Pot executed 1,700,000 of his own people which created 150,000 cambodian refugees into the U.S. In 1981, in a 3 bedroom home with an existing family of 4, my parents decided to take in a family of 6, 1 Mom and her 5 kids to help them escape the violence. Their father was killed by the govt. (It should be noted in this story, I dont believe I had a vote at this time, so I dont deserve a lick of credit for this except for having to share the bathroom for 5 weeks). There were no protesters standing in our yard telling my parents to send them back to where they came from and no one was saying the president was doing a shitty job because we got stuck with 150,000 Cambodians in our country. It was our countrys people helping people since it was the right thing to do at the time. Unless you have had your head in the sand, a different type of humanitarian crisis is happening in the southern part of our nation. Since October of last year, 52,000 unaccompanied children from mostly Honduras, El Salvador, & Guatemala have traveled over 1,000 miles on foot to escape unimaginable poverty and gang violence to try to find a better life. One of them I saw on tv the other day was a 6 year old little girl from Honduras who somehow, traveled by herself, didnt speak English and all she had was 2 gallon plastic bag with contained some clothes and a piece of paper that she could hand to someone that said North Carolina. I know this is problem. Im not sure what to do about it. Doesnt seem that anybody does. How do deport a 6 year old girl whose family deemed her current living situation so bad, that they just sent her off by herself and risked her life on a 1,000 mile trip maybe never to see her again back to Honduras? Do you just fly her back there, leave her at the airport and say not my problem? Im just pretty disgusted at how inept our leadership as a whole is becoming in handling our problems now, its two parties pointing fingers at each other. Its no ones fault. I understand that we need to deter future kids from coming across, but its a problem with multiple heads and a multi-level solution is needed. Shut the heck up and figure something out.
