About 600 members of staff of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have been exposed for joining the commission with fake letters of conversion. This was revealed due to a staff audit exercise, jointly coordinated by both the office of the Head of Service of the Federation and the NIMC. The investigation revealed further that the staff members guilty of the offence are largely those who joined from the defunct Department of Civic Registration (DNCR), the precursor to the NIMC. Further investigations disclosed that one Mr Salawu and Mrs Shosanya allegedly signed and issued the fake letters of conversion to the affected staff, ahead of their qualification for conversion, against proper procedure for their promotion. Though, NIMC carries out regular background checks to avoid compromising the National Identity Database, it was alleged that some forces intend to hamper further investigations and disciplinary actions by NIMC.
