About Jatt is not a caste but it represents a unique race.. The Jatt people follow different faiths and are engaged in different professions.. Biography Originally when Guru Gobind Singh made the Khalsa, he banned castes and surname use, instead all Sikhs were either called Singh(Lion) or Kaur(Princess). Over the following years, in the times of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and the Sikh Missls that reclaimed land back from the Moghuls, those leading the Missls eventually settled in those areas taking up farming. Inevitably many of these people originated... See More Description Jatts are a group of Independent Tribes found in Northwest India and Pakistan who maintain one of the oldest surviving tribal identities in the World and are distinctively identified by mankinds oldest profession - Agriculture. These Independent Tribes are called Clans (or Gots) and most of these clans are ascribed a Scythian Origin. In 1925, according to Professor Qanungo, the population of Jatts was around nine millions in South Asia and were the followers of three great religions: Islam (one-third), Sikhism (one-fifth), and Hinduism (the rest). Since there is no reliable current figure for the Jatt population available for South Asia an estimate can be made. By taking into consideration the population growth of both India and Pakistan since 1925, Professor Qanungos figure of nine million could be translated into at least 30 million people. Todays Jatts are mainly found in several Indian/Pakistani provinces: Punjab, Haryana, Sind, Rajasthan, and Kashmir. Among the followers of the Sikhism they form a two-third majority in this faith as per 1881 Census returns. Milliions of the South Asian Jatts call many Western countries their home. The most visible of them are the Jatt-Sikhs which can easily be distinguished from their clan or family names: Gill, Mann, Bains, Malhi or Malli, Dhaliwal, Dhillon, Sahota, Sidhu, Sandhu, Lalli, Virk, chauhan etc.
