About Suicide. I find it appalling that we as a society are not treating severe depression with the same respect as terminal illnesses. Why would it be considered okay for someone to end their life with dignity if they were terminally ill ex: Cancer, Alzheimers, etc ... but for someone who has been suffering with what clearly is in some cases a terminal illness it is considered selfish. How selfish is it for us to ask someone to suffer daily with severe and debilitating depression because we cannot handle death. It is upsetting to see people say that suicide is the wrong choice.... You can make that decision for yourself on a personal level... if it is wrong for you... that is fair. You do not have the right to make that decision for someone else. In some cases it is the right choice. This is not about you... it is not about their family... their friends... their loved ones or the hundreds of thousands of admirers and fans... this is about them. Robin Williams was a wonderful and beautiful person. He spoke openly about his battles with depression and addiction. He had a lot of help and the resources to seek much more than most. He had clearly been seeking/receiving help for a long time. He supported a multitude of causes... his openly speaking about depression, on the platform of his personal fame, alone, would have given others the courage to talk about their own depression. He owed us nothing... and we owed him a hell of a lot more than the disgusting expectation that he continue his life despite what we was going through. I am sad to see that he has left this plane of reality but I am glad that he may have found peace in knowing that his pain was over. While the world lost a bright star that brought light to many lives... His death may shed light on the way depression is viewed at large.
